School Report #5

Thursday, April 5, 2001

A few moments ago, on second reading, the House narrowly voted (67 v 57) in favor of an increase in the Local Option Budget(LOB), HB 2336. This bill increases the LOB available to school districts, including Blue Valley and Shawnee Mission, from 25% as it is now, to 30% on a public vote. The bill was amended to require all school districts to be strictly accountable and reportable as to the true, real and total cost of education compared with all funds from all sources available to the school district. The entire Johnson County delegation, Democrats and Republicans, favored HB 2336. Of both floors of the Legislature, I’m proud that the House has taken this first step toward supporting our school.

It isn’t a done deal yet. Final action on HB 2336 will occur tomorrow. E-mail your representative and encourage them to keep with their favorable vote of today.

Please feel free to forward and if you have e-mail addresses of other interested members of our community, please send them to me for inclusion in this address book.

Respectfully,

Doug Patterson
