MAJORITY WHIP

CHAIR: Johnson County Legislative Delegation

Dear Constituent:

Following the Primary election last August, much has happened. As the incumbent, I won the primary election in August against two vigorous challengers by a wide margin.  I was not opposed in the general election and therefore we worked on behalf of many candidates in order to elect a Johnson County legislative delegation committed to adequately funding our schools.

Last summer, I promised to run for Majority Whip of the House, seek the chairmanship of the Johnson County delegation of senators and representatives, and seek positions on important committees.  In addition, I promised to sponsor bills committed to education funding, protecting our community from crime, expand economic development tools for the growth of our economy and much more.

In just the first three weeks on the current session, all of the above has been accomplished.  I am the Republican Whip of the House. As Chair of the Johnson County  delegation, I will work to see that we vote as a group supportive of education and against unfriendly school proposals...they’re out there...already!  We have the current Session to work on  what has been started, but developing a new Johnson County friendly school finance formula will be a long term process. Thus far, I am optimistic about our new governor’s “no tax increase” budget, her support of schools and  the overall composition of Legislature.

It will be my goal  to keep you informed and seek your advice on the many issues to preserve our quality of life in Leawood and Overland Park.  This effort is not about me. It’s about our community being represented by legislators who have developed enough seniority and tenure in the Legislature to get things done. As you can see, that process continues.

                                                                                                                                                                                                                                          Respectfully,

                                                                                                                                                                                                                                          Doug Patterson
