The State of Kansas, through our Kansas National Guard and Air Guard maintains a State Homeland security office. As a precautionary measure, Major General Greg Gardner, adjutant general of Kansas and director of Kansas Emergency Management and Homeland Security, has directed the Kansas National Guard's Military Emergency Operations Center (MEOC) to step up to a 24 hour a day duty status. Extra security measures are being considered for all Kansas National Guard facilities throughout the state.

I would suggest that you visit the Kansas Homeland Security website http//www.ink.org/public/kdem for information about the Homeland Security Advisory System and precautions we should take at the High or Orange alert level. We are there now. The website lists what to do, what to expect and how individuals, families and communities should prepare for each alert level. These preparations and precautions include such things as monitoring the Emergency Alert System stations in your area, following travel warnings that may be in place and other important items.
